Its either natural talent or it can be learnt by an ustaad (teacher) or some one.
Dha = When the sound of the Dhol is been hit with both sides together (base and treble).
Na = Is when only one side has been hit, which is the Treble.
Ge = Is when only one side has been hit, which is the Base.
Key Skill for a beginner, or even a pro dhol is to know the basics and speed the tempo whilst getting better at playing the Dhol.
Key Skill lesson would be;
Ge Ge Na Na
Which is known as "Mummy Daddy" - Don't ask why, it's a new language as you get to experience other beats whether its complexed or simple. Please Note: When you see a beat ending, you need to "Loop" (repeat) the whole sequence.
Only who get the hang on playing that beat real fast, try and take that step slightly forward and play these beats;
Dha Na Na Na Na Dha Dha Na
This is known as "Chaal" - also this needs to be Looped in order for perfection on a basic, common beat.
I would say these are the beginners tutorial at the moment and then once accomplished, another 2 sets of Chaal beats get introduced and then other beats down the line.
