Thanks for that. Might go after work and try and get a descent mic.

Ok, tell me this. You know how Bee2 plays his tumbi extremely fast, but still manages to pull off crisp sounding tracks, is it possible to play this insane on an old school non modified tumbi and make it sound as crisp? I'm thinking maybe because his tumbi is electric, that the sound he creates is a lot clearer and sounds a lot better.

well yes and no. Hes been playing tubi over 10 years and when he started he was no way as good as he is now, it takes practice. But yes it is possible to get this sound on a desi old skool tumbi. However you got2 remmeber that the sound you hear on the records is modified, cleaned up changed via computer wizardry. I met a tumbi player up in india when i was there and he did absolutly mental shit on his tumbi; one day he was drunk and showed me his 'party trick' he put the pitch up on the tumbi and played it fast but not on a double stroke and he actually made it sound like an algoza! i was sat there with my mouth wide open like WTF???? anything is possible dude as long as you put the practice in.
Having an electric tumbi only saves you nails! But i think you should be an expert at the normal tumbi b4 u even consider looking at an electric one. hope this helps

Cool, thanks for that.

I guess with anything, practise makes perfect, there is no quick way of doing things-correctly.

What you mean by: "played it fast but not on a double stroke"?

I havn't been playing no where near long enough to make people stand in amazment. How about you? How long you been playing for?

I've seen some players use like a finger pluck for stricking the tumbi, but I can't find them here. What about using a sitar pluck, would thta be good enough?

hell no! dont use those finger plucks or sitar plucks, they are no good.
What i meant was that when you are playing a double speed tune like a giddha beat instead of stroking the string on the way up and down, you only stroke on the way down. understand?
ive been playing for about 14 years now and you?

I tried used a banjo pick once, but it was just way too hard to control and get a descent continuous moition from the damn thing. I have only been playing for around 5-6 months now. Not long at all! But I love playing it, bloody awesome. If you have been playing for 14 years you must be as good as Bee2 yeh?

Have you done any work with any music artists?

Also, I am really after some video clips of Tumbi players letting it rip, but I can't seem to find any. Do you know where I could get them from?

00 11 22

does that mean that the second number of the bunch is the stroke going up? as in fer 11 the "1" in bold wud b ur index finger stroking up rite? also wat does the space mean? is taht jus there to make the beats easier to read or do the spaces mean somethin?
