Tumbi
Hey, does anyone know any tumbi tunes, like in this form:
00 11 00 11 22 11 00 00
where
0 = no finger on neck
1 = one finger on neck
2 = 2 fingers on neck
and so on?
Thanks

Re: Tumbi
Once you get past the stage of excruciating pain from holding down the string, its actually relatively simple. The tune I had posted before was Jind mahi, and here is Mundian tho bach ke:
0 1 1 1 1 11 1 0 x3
0 1 1 0 0 2 2 0
And here Is Jugni:
11 11 22 33 22 11 11 11 22 11 22 33 22 11 11 11 etc
Just buy a tubmi, they’re cheap, and follow these “notes” and you’ll be playing in no time

na geeza, im musically orientated, so is Panjabi Rascal. We can just watch some one play a note or a beat (dhol) and just pick it up.
These notes don't work for us lol too much information going on... but its interesting to find that out that there is a way to teach tumbi tunes... il do some research to find any other methods.
Kicking Queen, il sell you mine - i own two

Re: Tumbi
Yeah its easy to pick it up by ear, but just need away to find out tunes from different guys (apart from songs that i hear) , so we need a common system to represent the tunes on a forum. Anyhow....its all good

The best way to learn the tumbi is not to copy songs other artists and musicians have played, that way is very confusing. The easier way to learn how to play is to buy a tumbi get somebody with an ear for music to strum it up so it plays a correct key without pressing anything and practise without playing any keys whatsoever until you know you can master a systematic beat which is not only consistent in terms of sound but variation as well. Donraja has improvised a few tracks for you all however if anyone sits there trying to play those they will never understand what the elements behind actually playing are nor will they get anywhere with it? I myself play four finger tumbi to a semi professional status yet still have far to go to be as good as the popular players out there and my work has featured on various tracks not only in the bhangra/desi industry. To be a successful tumbi maestro you must be able to tune in to the basics such as a constant basic note without any keys or you will find people switching at you as well as yourself getting frustrated as it will sound very whack ... However later down the line the composition from other tracks such as mundiyan tu bach ke and jind mahi will seem a hell of a lot easier.
