firstly.. do u rele wana mic in ur dhol. will u always use it and make good use of the fact uve put a hole in ur dhol. i remember putting a mic in one of my dhols ages ago and never using it.
now i aint got a mic in mine but i still play it propa loud.. i can play pretty crisp and tight to music now bol for bol so thinking about mic'ing up now actually.

ur list seems about right but you dont always need a bolt.. basically when i mic'd my dhol my mate used a bracket inside, it just used 3 lil screws to hold it in place rather then a big dirty bolt going all the way through ur dhol. looks way better...

either way good luck!
Tarnj

PS : the mic in the pic is an E604 not an SM57/58

That's the one.. exactly how i done mine. Bolts don't look nice sticking out of your drum.

The mic i use is SM57 - its been around for over 10 years i assume and is the best mic for percussion, i think SM58 is the improved version but i never tested it although one guy i know has that. If you can get hold of a SM57 i strongly advise you get it and put that in your drum.

Your list seems spot on i think, but careful on drilling, start of with a smaller piece then if its tight use a piece thats slightly higher.. i messed up a little on mine, it was bang on with the male XLR output so i sanded around it and it got loose lol so i shuved hot glue from the inside to hold it. That was a long time ago when i had my first mic on my old dhol..

If you screw your mic like Tarnj's and mine, wack some hot glue under the bracket so it sticks to the wood solid and also get some insulating tape lol and wrap this around the neck of the mic and the joint so it doesn't slip out of place...

All this took me 20mins max, don't even think about going to JAS musicals for help or anything.. they will charge you £90 just for installation and with their mics it would be £140.. the SM57 should cost you i think £70.
