Buying dhol in Punjab - Help appreciated.

Hey guys

I decided on getting a dhol made from Punjab instead of spending so much money online.

The main problems i'm facing are...
1. I'll be telling my masi, masardji, or one of my mama ji's the specifications and making sure the dhol gets made...
2. I won't be there...
3. Making sure there are no defects.
4. Making sure it is real kaali taali
5. Just making sure everything is done right.
6. Getting the dhol back safely.

I wanted a straight dhol specifically looking cloes to this dhol


Another main problem is exacally what to tell my masi ji to look for and ask for. So far i know i want a straight, kaali taali, free of defect (cracks and what not) dhol.

To cut to the point i want a straight dhol like the one pictured above without any defects and a beast when played.

I don't want to make any mistakes and want to make sure everything works out fine. I'd really appreciate your guys' input and help on what to make sure, ask, and look for so i can tell my masi ji or who ever i will be telling.

Just talked with mama ji and masi ji in the morning today and i'm going to be emailing them the specs soon before they get someone to get it made.

If anyone can post that'd be nice before i email them today.

Lol its not that easy. You got to tell exactly what kind of wood you want and what type of dhol and size and what to look for..

So far this is what i know...


Kalli Talli straight*** dhol. (Straight barrel dhol) looking like the one pictured above.

I think it will be around clear treble is 13.5" bass side is 14"

I will be sending them a few pictures also through the e-mail.

Edit-getting custom one made from punjab right now talked to mama ji and masi ji and they'll be getting someone to get it made and then ship it over...its going to be a straight dhol it'll be SWEEEEEEET

haha, kind of i still got to make sure that they do everything right and thats why i made this thread so people who have got their dhols made in punjab can give me some advice on what to look for or make sure and what not and what to get.
