thing is yeah living in England u have to stay with the crowd... u wont see many full true sikhs in Englang... were living in a white country so we follow most of the goreh here... whereas living in India it would probably be alright walking around with half a dhari.... thats also the reason why alot of sikhs and asian people are out clubbing and doing things typical goreh would be... i do considor myself a British Asian but i still do still follow and respect my traditions.... we realli cant blame anyone for this, its is partically our parents thoughts for bringing us up in this country but how were they supposed to know that was going to be in the furure, the only reason they probably wanted to come to this country was to maybe make sure they have and could provide a good and secure future for the whole family.... its also partically our fault too....
i think ive gone on a lil too much

In terms of Sikhi, yah you're right; no matter where it is, hair is hair and shouldn't be cut - regardless of gender. But in all honesty, if you are Sikh, well any religion come to think of it, I wouldn't encourage you to follow everything blindly but rather learn about the origins of all practices and traditions. In this case, if you're Sikh, I'd encourage you to first find out exactly why unshorn hair is recommended/required. I've read up on it and found two reasons:
i) the classic "if God didn't intend for us to have a certain feature, he wouldn't have given it to us in the first place" and
ii) back in the day (ie 15th century or so), forcefully cutting someone's hair was a form of humiliation.
I don't agree with either of the above two reasons so I will continue going to the hair dressers, waxing arms and legs, doing my eyebrows etc. I'm a vegetarian, don't drink/smoke or do other drugs, don't date because I myself agree with the mentality behind these traditions.

In terms of Islam, it's a bit complicated but overall, it is not permissible for women to do their eyebrows because (from what I remember, correct me if I'm wrong), apparently it was lower class women (ie. prostitutes) who used to do this sort of thing. Again, I'd encourage Muslim women to look at the reasoning behind this practice and ask themselves if it really is reasonable to them or not.

Nobody should just follow something because it was written in some scripture. Think for yourselves

Oh and Daljitmatharu, Sikh men aren't "supposed to" cut any of their hair and Muslim men are "supposed to" trim their moustache and grow a beard. Don't be singling the women out .

phy is so right here and i agree with her... another 2 things i have been told by my dad is a saying that i'm still trying to understand..which are...

guth piche muth hondhi... which is something like ..... how long your hair is... is how much knowledge of your own culture you have.... which made me think .... and also

baal di nikki, khanda di thikki, guru da sikhi... this means how thin your uncut hair is, this is how sharp the khanda blade is. and only true guru da sikhi have this!

this has stopped me from cutting my hair.....but not the rest
