Alan Stanford confirms $5m game off!
The $5m winner-takes-all Twenty20 match in Antigua between billionaire Allen Stanford's Super Star XI and South Africa will not be rescheduled.
After a week of uncertainty over the future of the Stanford 20/20 Super Star match between South Africa and West Indies planned for November 10, Allen Stanford has confirmed that the game will not go ahead. At a press conference in Antigua, Stanford outlined the events which led to his final decision. Moreover, he has now discarded an offer from the Pakistan Cricket to re-schedule the match. "There is too much uncertainty and too much at stake to move forward with the match at this stage," he said.
Billionaire Stanford, recently funded the “Stanford twenty 20 cup” which attracted million’s of viewers from around the world. The cup itself was a major success and drew thousands of electric fans into the ST JOHN’S ANTIGUA ground, at the same time creating a carnival and electric atmosphere. The winners of the tournament would receive a check for $1 million Us dollars. The final was played between Trinidad and Tobago & Guyana. Both team’s had international cricket superstars within there rank’s, Ramnaresh sarwan and Daren Ganga are the few to name! The match itself was tense and thrilling, with over 5 million viewers watching the final being played, both teams were under immense pressure, however the cool Guyana team kept their cool and took the Stanford 20/20 cup and not forgetting the massive $1 million Us Dollars prize.
